Badger cubs

The Badgers young are now out and about, Still small about 14″ long they stay close to the Sett entrance but are not that timid, Sometimes coming too close. As i Move around only two meters away from them they’re totally unconcerned, Concentrating on the peanuts scattered about. Sudden noise sends them trotting back into the sett only to reappear within a minute or two, to carry on the business of finding food.

The pictures were taken with flash and the Badgers are totally unconcerned , showing more interest in the click of the camera earlier on when the light was better. After the first shutter click this too has no effect either !

In Search of Snakes

Now that the warm weather has finally arrived i’ve tried to find some snakes , with some luck , Adders mostly , actually they’re the only ones i’ve seen so far . Walking through the heather spotting them can be difficult , it seems you see them when your not trying ! and they’re close , not more than two or three feet away , one i saw was coming towards me and slipped up and over the toe of my boot , only after did i think ” what if it went up the leg of my trousers !” Ahh !

It makes you very careful where you place your hands on some of the steeper slopes, in all i spotted five in about two hours , ranging in colours , very light buff , olive to green ,

More to follow.

Bank Voles Are Back

After a short Break the Bank Voles are back again , there seem to be two different types coming to the log , Bank Vole and Field Vole ? , i’ll get some mug shots together and put them up on the site This particular vole will let me get within 2 – 3 feet of it – just sitting there eating some food , totally chilled out, but others seem to be bags of nerves , possibly because they’re in a different territory , they rarely tolerate each others presence. While watching them i ‘ve noticed a Shrew coming in and eating the seeds , but photographing it has been a bit frustrating !!
